About

Grace Holloway is a Washington, D.C.–based composer whose music moves through rhythm, texture, and harmonic color in search of brightness — often built from an underlying interest in geometry and physics, which she uses to generate distinct, tightly constructed soundscapes. Her writing draws on two seemingly distant traditions: the pulse-driven language of late-20th-century minimalism and the lush harmonic vocabulary of 1970s–80s Japanese jazz fusion, fusing them into something that feels both structurally rigorous and sonically warm.

Grace holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition from Carnegie Mellon University. Her music has been performed and read by ensembles including NAT28 New Music and musicians of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; her work Crank has been premiered and read by Quartetto Noûs and Dover Quartet, spanning work for both small chamber groups and larger ensembles.

Her music has been described as "masterful, with nothing lost between the conception and execution."

Upcoming works include Sinfonietta in 4 Movements and the short film score of “Chicken Soup”, written by William Gotten and directed by David Lillien.
